Low cement castable refers to castable with a lower cement content. The cement dosage of refractory castable is usually 15-20%, and the cement dosage of low-cement concrete mix is about 5%, and some even decrease to 1-2%. The aim of cement dosage reduction is to improve the refractory of concrete, its thermal shock resistance, slag resistance and corrosion resistance are also significantly improved compared to similar refractory bricks.

Low and ultra-low cement castables are a type of refractory material that is used to line industrial furnaces and other high-temperature equipment. They are made from a mixture of refractory aggregates, such as alumina, silica, and zircon, and a binder, such as calcium aluminate cement or sodium silicate. The amount of cement in the mix is what distinguishes low and ultra-low cement castables from each other.
Low Cement Castables
Low cement castables contain from 1.0% to 2.5% calcium oxide (CaO). This is considerably less than conventional cement-based refractories, which typically contain around 10% CaO. The reduced amount of CaO in low cement castables gives them several advantages, including:
Improved thermal shock resistance: Low cement castables are less susceptible to thermal shock, making them better suited for applications where the temperature changes rapidly.
Reduced shrinkage: Low cement castables shrink less than conventional cement-based refractories, which can lead to cracking and spalling.
Greater dimensional stability: Low cement castables are more dimensionally stable than conventional cement-based refractories, which can reduce the need for repairs.
Ultra-Low Cement Castables
Ultra-low cement castables contain even less calcium oxide than low cement castables, typically between 0.2% and 1.0% CaO. This makes them the most refractory castable type available. Ultra-low cement castables are used in applications where the highest possible resistance to fire and corrosion is required.
